Underground Utility Location Services
At Michael Dequine and Associates, Inc. we provide field surveys based upon visual observation of surface evidence to locate underground utilities. On many previous projects we have found it necessary to identify the location and depth of underground utilities to a greater accuracy than visual surface evidence. When that situation occurs, we coordinate with an underground utility location service to mark the location and depth on the ground of the underground utilities. We meet with the underground utility subconsultant on site and identify the limits of the underground utility survey. The utility location subconsultant will utilize either ground penetrating radar, electromagnetic induction, or both to complete the underground utility marking. Upon completion of the utility marking Michael Dequine and Associates, Inc. provides field surveys to locate the paint marks, flags, or other evidence on the ground of existing underground utilities. That information is imported into our digital base map drawings (which may include topographic survey information, design survey information, boundary information, etc.) and we provide a map showing the location and depth of the existing underground utilities within the project area. It should be noted that depth of underground utilities cannot be provided to a greater degree of accuracy that about 10% of the stated depth without a pothole of the facility.
